James Cook University - English Language Centre

The James Cook University- English Language Centre (JCU-ELC) is a great place to learn English. The class sizes are small. Students are in an effective and friendly environment. Students are given the personal attention and support services needed to maximise there results.

The JCU-ELC consists of an excellent team of teachers. All of them are university graduates. They also have the qualifications and experience to provide students good-quality training in the English language. The staff members are highly committed to teaching and caring for the students’ well-being. English programs and courses that are available are in English for Academic Purposes; IELTS Preparation; Cambridge Exams Preparation; High School Preparation, and Study Tours.

English Language programs at the JCU are conducted by teachers with extensive qualifications and experience in teaching. Teachers are committed and determined in ensuring students receive the best English language education possible. In attempting to get students to achieve maximum results the programs are delivered in a memorable way.

Courses in English range from general to advanced level. They are designed for students who intend to study in programs at university or TAFE. Students can also take the course to improve communication in the English language.

English for Academic Purposes focuses on introducing students to the academic conventions, expectations and learning techniques needed to study at the university level. Cambridge Exams Preparation programs are for students preparing to sit for the Cambridge Certificate exams. These exams test the ability of students to use English in the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. There is also a program offered by JCU-ELC called Private Tuition. They are one on one teaching tuitions tailored to the individual student. Lessons under this concentrate on the student’s needs.

To join an Australian high school international students can go under the JCU-ELC’s High School Preparation course. This course is designed to ensure students from overseas have adequate skills in English for Australian high schools. Students can also improve the English skills by going to a Study Tour. These tours provide a good opportunity for international students to improve their skills in the English language while simultaneously enjoying time in North Queensland’s tropical climate.
